Mission

The Federal Office is responsible for implementing asylum proceedings and for granting refugee protection in Germany. At the same time, it coordinates the promotion of integration at national level. Furthermore, the range of tasks also includes migration research, this constituting a research mandate which is entrenched in law in order to obtain analytical information on managing migration. The data and information which are obtained here make it possible to competently advise policy-makers and other stakeholders within society.

  • Promotion and coordination of integration (integration courses, promoting projects and measures for integration within society, vocational german language promotion, the german islam conference)

  • Prevention: the advice centre on radicalisation, the prevention and cooperation clearing centre

  • Accompanying academic research on migration, integration and asylum

  • Data collection (the maintenance of the central register of foreigners, improving the state of knowledge on migration)

  • International tasks (cooperation with the european asylum support office (EASO), international networking and committee work, staff deployments abroad and much more).
