Target

The main beneficiaries of the project are minors in the criminal circuit, for whom we have planned direct research, experimentation and intervention in order to introduce innovative practices of social inclusion. Other beneficiaries are the key people who work around the system of local social services, penitentiary administration, services and organisations that collaborate, with different functions, in the reintegration of young people.

Objectives

  • Building a shared knowledge on the organisation and functioning of the services in support of minors in the criminal context in the juvenile criminal and penitentiary systems of the countries of the European Mediterranean area;
  • Improving the juvenile detention conditions and activities for their social reintegration;
  • Strengthening the relationship between institutes, communities, cities and reference territories;
  • Reinforcing and innovating the intervention strategies;
  • Enhancing and reinforcing the local networks of the subjects working for the protection and social inclusion of the minor through the tools created within the project, involving each subject both in the critical reflection and in the indication of good practices and in the identification of empowerment and innovative tools;
  • Reinforcing the area of knowledge and professional competence, through opportunities for exchange of experiences and shared creation of tools, of professionals;
  • Developing knowledge, professional skills, interdisciplinary and intercultural methodologies and participation patterns in view of a search for a better integration of the activities devoted to and accomplishable with minors;

Main activities

The stages of the project include:

  1. the execution of comparative research on the juvenile criminal and penitentiary systems (strategies for training and social re-habilitation, alternative measures to detention, etc.)
  2. the implementation of improvement initiatives for the detention conditions of minors (identification and evaluation of good practices of guidance, training and social and work inclusion; experimentation of models of intervention and guidance and support of minors subject to criminal proceedings);
  3. strengthening the professional skills of key workers from the different partner countries, who are involved, with various tasks, for the reintegration of minors.
